mbs direct / barnes & noble education ux + redesign

mbs/barnes & noble education, textbooks.com’s parent company, builds and manages brick + mortars and online bookstores for more than 1000 high schools and colleges, including snhu. we redesigned the online bookstore – which was templatized for efficiencies, while being customizable by school – head to toe. the ux strategy was to integrate each school’s course catalog (to minimize ordering mistakes and returns) and simplify the cart flow.

Online Bookstore Course Selector Page - students log in with their school ID and see only their courses and only the books they need. Amazon can't do that. Reduced one of the biggest pain points for students and our business: minimize their wrong book orders + frustration, minimize our returns and costs.

pitched this winning fortune cookie concept, a sharp left turn away from our then branding. turned familiar fortunes into zen-ified promotional messaging with legs: carried through 6 weeks of emails, with several gif and a/b testing versions.
